Amilla Fushi Maldives Resort and Residences Reopens
The luxury Maldives resort welcomes international guests seeking an intimate and safer tropical island escape from July 2020 onwards for private groups and from October 1st for normalized operations.
Amilla Maldives Resort and Residences is gearing up to welcome back guests to their ‘Island Home’ from July 2020 onwards. The stunning private island set in Baa Atoll will reopen in three carefully-planned phases; offering a luxurious but playful tropical refuge for anybody wishing to get away from it all.
Phase One commencing July, sees Amilla opening up its stunning Residences and Beach Villas for guests staying at least seven nights, private groups wanting exclusive use of the island and new Residence owners. From October 1st, the resort moves into Phase Two of its reopening strategy, with more normalized operations and a greater array of pursuits and dining options. Phase Three, tentatively launching December 1st, will see a full return to Amilla’s diverse repertoire of activities and entertainment. This announcement from Amilla comes as the Maldives moves to reopen its borders, along with the easing of global travel restrictions implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Maldives is just perfect for a secluded, safer getaway due to its ‘one island, one resort’ concept, which means each resort is on a private island of its own, with a limited number of occupants and no access for non-guests. The geographical isolation of each island in the archipelago further limits opportunities for virus transmission. A recent US Government study found the coronavirus dies quickly on surfaces and in air exposed to direct sunlight and another recent report found it’s hard for the virus to spread in the humid air. Much of Amilla Maldives, including the Villas and Residences, feature open areas exposed to direct sunlight and fresh air. As an equatorial country, the Maldives constantly has high humidity and lots of sunshine. In addition, Amilla is one of the most spacious island resorts in the Maldives with a limited number of Villas and Residences and plenty of self-contained amenities like private plunge pools, which helps greatly with physical distancing.
The Amilla Islanders are also carefully monitoring the temperatures of all arrivals and departures and have implemented rigorous hygiene protocols. Amilla’s three-phase reopening strategy aligns with guidelines from the Maldivian Government and Ministry of Tourism as well as World Health Organization recommendations. All these factors combined help to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission and make Amilla a safer choice for a 2020-21 holiday.
Phase One is just perfect for guests or new Residence owners seeking a private and highly-personalized holiday for seven nights or more – there’s also an option anybody wanting to book sole use of the private island for themself and any of their companions. A selection of Amilla’s beachfront Residences (which range from One-Bedroom Residences to Eight-Bedroom Residences) as well as the resort’s One-Bedroom and Two-Bedroom Beach Villas have been specially prepared to welcome new guests.
Guests arriving during Phase One (July-October) will be able to enjoy a more self-contained experience than usual when staying for the minimum requirement of seven nights. The food and beverage services will be scaled down but can be customized according to the guests’ wishes and restaurants and bars can be opened as required. Delivery charges have been completely waived so guests can enjoy world-class dishes from the island chef 18 hours per day inside their sumptuous Beach Villa or Residence, or whilst relaxing on their private terrace. There’s even an option for a decadent ‘floating breakfast’ in their private pool.
The largest properties on the island – the stunning Residences - (which guests now have an opportunity to purchase) feature fully equipped kitchens, outdoor barbeques, and al fresco dining areas. As such, many guests even pre-pandemic barely felt the need to leave the privacy of their Residences. Residence guests have access to a ‘providore list’ of groceries and the choice to self-cater, order delivery or enjoy the main restaurant on request. The self-catering option is a rare advantage as very few Maldives villas have kitchens.
Amilla’s new organic garden (which the Islander has been working hard on during the temporary hiatus) is producing some fresh vegetables and herbs to complement the Homemade@Amilla and Homegrown@Amilla programs. As part of Amilla’s rebirth, which features all kinds of new innovations, there will be a new focus on healthy probiotics, wellness cuisine, and drinks for any guests wanting to boost their immunity naturally. Bars will be temporarily unavailable during Phase One, but guests can request private areas where they can enjoy drinks or linger on the beach and admire the sunset. The resort will even send a Happy Hour beverage tray to the Villas and Residences twice a week so guests can make their own cocktails to enjoy in the privacy of their own beach area.
The activities and entertainment programs will be leaner than usual during Phase One; however, guests will be able to enjoy non-motorized water-sports and private excursions such as snorkeling or manta-spotting. The summer marks Manta-Ray Season and guests might also even catch sight of whale sharks.
Heightened hygiene protocols and reduced contact services such as no hand-shaking and paperless bills (to maintain Amilla’s physical distancing practices) will operate throughout Phase One and will continue until no longer necessary. Seaplane or domestic charters will be limited to private charters only (with no shared options) during Phase One to reduce potential risks even further. There is also a period of 24 hours between checkouts and new check-ins for Villas and Residences so they can be thoroughly cleaned in accordance with the new hygiene protocols and villa Mini Bars will be stocked with the guests’ favorite items upon request.
Phase Two, beginning October 1st, will see Amilla resuming more normalized operations. More accommodation, activities, and amenities will be made available including Amilla’s thrilling weekly Baa-letin recreation program. Open-air dining areas will be utilized at the resort’s world-class restaurants and bars including a delightful toes-in-the-sand beach dining venue and Chill’d wellness café, which offers immunity-boosting cuisine and concoctions. Other adaptations for ‘the new normal’ such as increased spacing between tables will allow for more physical distancing. Amilla’s enhanced hygiene procedures shall continue, such as paper-free menus and bills and rigorous cleaning protocols.
The Islanders have been working hard during this temporary hiatus on planning for the return of guests and making the island look even more beautiful than ever. The new protocols have been lovingly-crafted with the wellbeing and peace of mind of guests as a priority.
